Welcome Back! We are excited to welcome new and returning families to Orangewood and the 2007-2008 school year!
At Orangewood School we strive to encourage our students to be responsible, respectful, safe and prepared. Our challenging curriculum focuses on increasing student achievement while providing a safe, student friendly atmosphere. Over the past two years, our Academic Performance Index (API) scores have risen 59 points! During the 2005-2006 school year we increased a phenomenal 36 API points to put our school at an overall API of 752. Subsequently, during the 2006-2007 school year we increased an extraordinary 23 API points to put our school’s overall API at 775.
Our reading and comprehensive reform program Success For All (SFA) along with an additional 60 minute emphasis on Language Arts has had a positive impact on student achievement. Research shows that students who read every day become better readers and are more successful in school. Please encourage your child(ren) to READ! READ! READ! Students who participate in reading 20 minutes nightly are invited to an exciting celebration held quarterly, called SFA Café. During SFA Café, students are treated to music, refreshments and can win special prizes all of which are funded by our PTA.
Our school year lasts 184 days. It starts the day after Labor Day, September 4, 2007 and ends the third week of June on the 19th. The school day starts at 7:55 and runs until 2:08. Our school office opens at 7:30. The cafeteria opens at 7:30 for breakfast and playground supervision begins at 7:45. The school office closes daily at 3:30. |
