Monte Vista has a clearly defined and successful instructional
program. The school
met the federal AYP (Academic Yearly Progress) goal and saw growth
in our API
(Academic Performance Index). In addition, we had 57% of our English
Learners
advance one level or more as indicated on the CELDT (California
English Language
Development Test).
At Monte Vista, our teachers use grade level standards to guide,
support and
improve student performance. Our main goal is to have every child
reading at grade
level by the end of 3rd grade. Our literacy program is based on scientifically
based
research. Every student is taught reading, writing, listening and
speaking in a
systematic approach focusing on strategies and skills needed to ensure
literacy.
The school’s belief is that parents, teachers and community
members are equal
partners in our children’s education. Therefore we encourage
all stakeholders to
become actively involved in our school.
The school year lasts 184 days. Every Wednesday we dismiss students
early so
teachers receive staff development, plan and articulate together
on a regular basis.
Major Achievements:
- The majority of our students are meeting or exceeding grade
level standards in
Language Arts according to the District’s Multiple Measures
data.
- 65% of our students are reading at or above their grade level
according to our
benchmark tests.
