The Merlinda Elementary school community has been hard at work
to achieve its goal
of raising student achievement. We are extremely proud of our results
so far. Our
CAT-6 and CST scores have risen 208 points over the last five years.
Our Academic
Performance Index (API), which compares our school to all schools
in California, has
risen from 595 to 803.
Major Achievements
- Merlinda was named a California Distinguished and Title I Achieving
School in
2004
- Merlinda has 85 percent of its students at or above grade level
in SFA reading.
- Our school has one of the 2002 California Teachers of the Year,
Mary Geer, on
its staff.
We continue to increase our emphasis on literacy through the on-going
implementation
of strong results-based Success for All (SFA) reading program. We continue
serving
ALL students by offering intensive tutoring for first through fourth graders
who are not
meeting grade level standards in reading through providing after school classes.
Our
well-received Family Support Team which helps parents and teachers work together
for
the success of our children has also been a major help for all of
us. We are proud to say that through these efforts we have 85 percent
of our students reading at or above grade level!
We believe that it takes the entire community to achieve success,
and that includes
parents. We welcome you to join us in this noble effort.
The school year lasts 184 days. The year begins the day after
Labor Day and ends in
June. The school day is from 7:45 to 1:45. Every Wednesday we dismiss students
at
12:50 so teachers can meet and plan together. Our school doors open at 7:15
and close at 3:15 daily.
